Research

Dr. Bin Dong is interested in the vibration of symmetric mechanical systems. He integrated advanced mathematical tools, such as the circulant matrix theory and group theory, into the vibration analysis of mechanical systems, including planetary gears and bladed disks. His work has led to the development of numerical methods for efficiently determining eigensolutions in structures that consist of coupled symmetric substructures. His research aims to address the spatial and temporal symmetry of general symmetric systems, taking the time-varying system parameters into account. He is also interested in the nonlinear dynamics of energy harvesters and the application of machine learning method to the analysis and characterization of vibratory systems.
